Kapalua is engulfed in rich history dating back to 1836 where the famed Reverend Dr. Dwight Baldwin settled  on Maui after almost two decades of missionary service to Hawaii.  Through the years, Dr. Baldwin's land ownership grew to 24,000 acres. As time progressed and throughout the family generations, the  land became steeped in rich agriculture with acres of taro, coffee, aloe and mango.  Many of the cook pines that were planted by H.P Baldwin (Dr. Dwight's son) and Scottish horticulturist D.T. Flemming still remain tall and strong today.

In its original form, Kapalua was revered by the Hawaiians for its many sacred sites and strong spiritual energy.  The nearby rocky point that points into the ocean is believed to be where one's mana (life force) journeys from this life to the underworld.
